Meet Mavrick
Mavrick Afonso is running for City Council to put his experience to work and tackle Boston’s housing crisis for the people of District 7.
Born and raised in Boston’s Four Corners neighborhood, Mavrick’s family instilled in him a love for community and supporting neighbors.
He attended Boston Public Schools -- Condon Elementary, Russell Elementary, Grover Cleveland Middle School and Charlestown High School where he was elected student government President and was captain of the football and track teams. In high school, he also formed a nonprofit called C-Town Spirit that developed an impactful economics course for high school students and served as the precursor to his career in community organizing and coalition building.
Currently, Mavrick serves in the Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (HLC) and is focused on bringing down the cost of housing and bringing stakeholders to the table to execute Massachusetts’ five-year housing plan. Previously, Mavrick served for nearly a decade in the City of Boston’s Parks & Recreation Department, creating more open and green space for residents across the City.
Mavrick graduated from Colby College, where he was a part of student government and a member of the football team. In 2023 Mavrick earned his Master’s of Business Administration from Northeastern University.
Mavrick understands the challenges facing Boston families and is running to help lower costs, close the wealth gap and provide opportunities in District 7 so that we all can thrive.
Mavrick will bring bold, independent leadership to City Hall—putting the voices of Roxbury, Dorchester, the South End and Fenway front and center.
Join us in building a stronger, more equitable future for District 7!
